THE Nigerian Army yesterday said it has cleared Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram terrorists on the Damaturu/Yobe road.
Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, who made this known, said a team of Nigerian Army cleared the mines and other with support from the Nigeria Police and the local vigilance group.
Colonel Usman, in a statement, said four IEDs planted by the terrorists were successfully detonated.
He advised motorists, travellers and members of the public, who had hitherto deserted the route because of the mines planted by the insurgents to commence using the road as adequate security had been provided.
The statement further advised members of the public to be security conscious and report any suspected persons and movements to the security agencies.
The statement made available to Daily Sun in Abuja, read in part: “Please inform members of the public that Damaturu-Biu Road has been cleared of mines by a team of Nigerian Army Special Forces, Explosives Ordinance Devices with support from Nigeria Police and local vigilantes.
“During the painstaking and thorough operation, four Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) planted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists were discovered and successfully detonated. Commuters are encouraged to use the road as adequate security is being provided.”
